Leveraging Our Gifts for Peacebuilding Today
May 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)
Call-in Number 1-916-209-4534 Access Code 3698002#
This call is open to all. Please join us.
During this call we will look at our work through the lens of universal needs and gifts, and how these concepts can inform our process, and help us to evolve our movement:
We will discuss “empathication” – ways we can speak and listen to increase our effectiveness in connecting with others, ways of receiving feedback to mitigate “compassion fatigue,” and ways to more fully manifest our native leadership skills.
Judith Katz is a co-founder of the Connection Action Project (CAP), an initiative designed to shepherd the transition from a world built on the belief that we are separate individuals driven by self-interest, to a world built on the reality that our well being is tied up with the well being of other people and living things. In its statement of principles, CAP cites practicing love in thought, word and action, “The new world will be built on what we consider to be a fundamental and universal need to give from the heart. Together we employ our energies towards activities that model and encourage goodwill and generosity.”
Practitioners of empathic communication who are passionate about sharing their experiences through action and creative work founded the Project. CAP takes empathic orientation out of the personal or therapeutic realm, into applications such as mediations, group process facilitation, and community organizing.
When we judge others, we contribute to violence ...
Empathy lies in our ability to be present without opinion.
