Kids for Peace - PEACE PLEDGE

I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way.  I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day.
I pledge to care for our earth with my healing heart and hands.

I pledge to respect people in each and every land.
I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small.  I pledge to do my part to create PEACE for one and all.

Kids for Peace are leading the way to a more peaceful community in Southeast San Diego.

Since she was four-years-old, Cierra Cloud has worked for peace.  Her grandmother, Cynthia Gilliam, who describes herself as “just a grandmother of a little girl,” has supported Cierra every step of the way from Cierra’s journey through elementary school, middle school and now into her first year of high school.

In 2007, the San Diego Peace Alliance/ Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peacebuilding group (Americans for a Department of Peace or AFDOP) began a relationship with Cierra, Cynthia and Kids for Peace that continues to this day.  AFDOP members Sue Trisler and Brian Gibbs first met Cynthia and Cierra in January 2007 at a peace event at the Malcolm X Library.  This resulted in two postcard projects.  Cierra, Cynthia, the Kids for Peace and AFDOP collected over 1,100 postcards to President Barack Obama asking him (and Congress) to support the Youth PROMISE Act (Prison Reduction through Opportunity Mentoring Intervention Support and Education).  In 2010, the group collected approximately 600 postcards to First Lady Michelle Obama.  In 2012, the President thanked the kids for their suggestions on how to reduce violence and praised their peace work in the community.
