Blessed are the Peacemakers: Making Peace and Practicing Nonviolence in a World of War and Violence

Fifth Annual Peace Conference

The Fifth Annual Conference on Building a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence will be held on the Rivier University Campus Saturday March 23, 2013, 8:45 am - 4:00 pm.

General Information

The conference will feature lectures, seminars, media presentations, and workshops dealing this year with global dimension and other aspects of peacemaking and peacebuilding. The Conference is free of charge and open to the public. Box lunches will be available for a small fee.

NH Peace Action has chosen Promoting International Peace and Security as the theme for this year's conference, which also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Good Pope John XXIII's encyclical Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth). Attendees will be able to select three of the approximately 25 workshop sessions that will be featured. Some of the workshops planned: Why Nuclear Power is Not the Answer to Global Warming; The Role of Traditional Islamic Art in Promoting Peace; Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem as Peacemaking; Drumming for Peace; Fair Markets to Peace; Educating for Peace; Abolishing the Death Penalty; Bullying in schools; Argentina: Case Study on Moving from Military Dictatorship; Patriotism and World Security: Friend or Foe? Morality of Drones.

Keynote Speaker

Father John Dear

The keynote speaker will be Father John Dear, Jesuit Priest, Peace Activist, Organizer, Lecturer, and Retreat Leader. Father John is the author/editor of 28 books on peace and nonviolence, including Living Peace, published by Doubleday. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Father John's Biography is available here: www.johndear.org/bio.html.

The Title for John Dear's keynote address is Blessed are the Peacemakers: Making Peace and Practicing Nonviolence in a World of War and Violence. Just back from a peace mission to Afghanistan, Father John will share reflections about the world of violence and war, the life of creative nonviolence and peace, Jesus’ active nonviolence, and how we can become contemplatives, activists, and prophets of peace and justice to work for a new world without war, poverty, nuclear weapons or global warming.

Our Peace Dove was requested to "fly" again in the Amherst Fourth of July Parade 2012.  It is heartening when the town organizers request the presence of Peace.  The parade's theme this year was "Summer Fun" thus the campy imploring of "S'More Peace, Please".

Speaking for Peace at the Fourth Annual YOGA for PEACE in ACTION: Sponsored by YogaCaps http://yogacaps.net/2011yoga4peace.html  "This conference is organized by 100% volunteer power.  To share our peace, proceeds benefit three important nonprofit causes: free yoga classes for those with cancer, social justice and peace-building scholarships, healthy whole food items for NH Meals on Wheels programs."

Heartfelt gratitude to the Zaanti Yoga and Meditation Studio of Wilton

Zaanti presented a special yoga session dedicated to Peace on the 10th anniversary of 911 and invited us to speak about the Department of Peace. They followed up with a Peace filled E News Letter later that month.

Candidates show up early to campaign in NH. 2011 Amherst, NH parade

In 2007, below, candidate Romney was introduced to the Dept. of Peace at our local market (as was President Obama)

New Hampshire began stirring the concepts of Peacebuilding and awareness of The Peace Alliance into the 2012 Presidential Race at the Amherst, NH Fourth of July parade.  Local and Boston media maneuvered for coverage of Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney who were both in attendance.  NH Peace Alliance intends to march along side during the election year.

Come and join us, Do Peace!

The Peace Alliance NH marched in the Amherst 4th of July parade.  The theme was Then and Now, we added the Future: Peace! Note the blue ribbon on the mini-float.
