A few events have just been planned -on Cape Cod- to share (God-s and) my poetry-writing (see http://www.lindaohlsongraham.com/writings.php and
http://www.lindaohlsongraham.com/poems.php):
Sept. 19th I-ve been invited to lead a UU Church service in Provincetown, MA.
The minister is leaving at the end of July. -Interim ministers- will fill in during Aug. The service committee and I talked about me taking a Sunday to share -poetry/writing-*. They felt it might be nice if it was one that had something to do with peace :
International Peace Day is Sept. 21st ...
so ... *-we- agreed on Sun. Sept. 19th.
I suggested the the new minister could talk for a few minutes re: peace during the -Sunday talk- which I-ll give.
Also ... a lovely gallery in Provincetown: http://wohlfarthgalleries.com/about.html
and http://wohlfarthgalleries.com/ has invited me to present an evening of my (and God-s) poetry/writing on Aug. 24th @ 7:30 ...

Can we, as "Industrialized", "Civilized", "Advanced" society accomplish Conflict - Resolution? or is War "inevitable" and resort to barbarian behaviors for the sake of massive profits and deaths. Or, as these questions simply inconvenient?

Ted-
Perhaps so, and perhaps I do not know how to teach, but I've tried with my own children and some conservative friends without success.

I'll check out the blog and book.

Thanks for the info.

Ken-
I agree with your observation about lack of empathy. But I don't believe it's evolutionary - I believe it can be taught. I read something recently in "Switch - How to Change Things When Change is Hard" a study that looks at fixed mindsets vs. growth mindsets. The way some people are interacted with when they are young and finding their way in the world determines what kind of mindset they will develop. I recommend the book, but this blog has a nice summary.

War mongers do not seem to have much empathy towards others. They seem to be stuck in their primitive ways while others of us have evolved to become more empathetic. Could this difference in views about violence vs. peace building be an evolutionary issue?
