Ray Leung is a long-time San Francisco Chinatown resident and a co-founder of the Neighborhoods Vision Project (NVP). He is also a 28-year-old undergraduate senior double majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. NVP has been his life-long passion, and the pursuit will continue and become his full-time commitment after graduation in May 2010. With the actualization of NVP, Ray desires to develop peaceful, long-lasting, collaborative relationships among diverse youth living in different neighborhoods who usually do not come together. In the process, he would love to engage in proactive ways with the community to tackle racism and bridge the racial divisions in the American society which hinder positive relationships.

NVP is a pilot program in which diverse youth living in different San Francisco neighborhoods come together to envision and implement a service project that will benefit each other’s neighborhoods. With the mentorship of UC Berkeley students and community members, youth from Mission High School are organizing their own community service ventures and collaborating with youth from various San Francisco neighborhoods to complete them. NVP provides an opportunity for service-based learning and empowers youth to begin to break the isolation of San Francisco neighborhoods and encourage cooperative interaction among them.
