NEW BEGINNINGS:
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE PRISON PIPELINE

California has the largest prison population in the United States and spends approximately $50,000 per year to house each prisoner. This year the state spent almost as much on prisons ($9.2 billion) as on universities and community colleges ($11.6 billion).
Thousands of prisoners may soon be released into society without adequate support. Many fall back into the cycle of drugs, alcohol, abuse, violence and crime. The recidivism rate is 70%. This cycle makes no sense.
The Richmond Improvement Association (RIA) is stepping in to support individuals as they transition into a world beyond the prison pipeline. That group has opened its first home and program to assist individuals in making a successful, productive and permanent move into society. Please join the call to learn more about the underlying problems that perpetuate the prison cycle and how RIA is working to make a difference.
