Ms. Charlie Toledo, Executive Director of the Suscol Intertribal Council, in Napa, CA is of Towa descent, native to New Mexico. In addition to her private practice as a certified masseuse, certified hypnotherapist and meditation teacher since 1982, Charlie has extensive experience as public speaker, presenter and community organizer in regional, statewide, national and international forums. She has over twenty years in alternative healthcare fields, as well as background in consultation for problem solving and stress reduction for individuals, families, and organizations. She has been an organic gardener since 1978. She has a lifelong commitment to social justice and international work on human rights and social justice issues.
Some of her numerous affiliations include: Executive Board member, DQU, Native American Community College, 1997 - 2003; representative Women of Color/ Oakland and indigenous people at the UN International Conference on Women in Beijing, China, 1995; U.S. delegate to Afghanistan to assist in organization of emerging women leaders and constitutional rebuilding, 2003; and World Peace Federation peace ambassador to Israel Middle East Peace Initiative, 2007.
The time has come to listen to echoes from our land … the wisdom and teachings of our Native American Indians. Their words are simple and their voices are soft. We have not heard them, because we have not taken the time to listen. Perhaps now is the time to open our ears and our hearts to the words of wisdom they have to say …
