Chris Aquino What's Lacking

So here I am. A team leader. Whenever I talk to a new group of volunteers I always say, "Make no mistake. This is a political action" I've got the politics down. Lobbying is after all a political action. I have found that there is something lacking in my approach to this. It is the very essence of The Peace Alliance. Compassion, pure and simple. How can I better serve my fellow human beings. There's a man I Taos who has started a Food Instead of Bombs, movement. Many of our brothers and sisters… Continue

Jodee Oyas City Council Resolutions

I was asked to write a blog on how to go about getting a city council resolution in your city/ town/ district.

Im with the New Mexico D.O.P. We currently have 3 city Council resolutions and 1 county commission resolution. We are introducing a resolution tomorrow night in a community and we will have a resolution passed in Santa Fe by summer.

The man who taught me about the D.O.P. in New Mexico was Richard Mansbach. He was the coordinator when I got to Albuquerque. Richard told me that… Continue

Prof. Fani Bhusan Das DoPeace-ACT ON IDEAS OF PEACE

It is time now to ACT on DoPeace Ideas than merely having it and generating it. Many Ideas have been generated but it has not gone down to common world citizens who actually adopt it to creat Peace in "themselves" and outside. We have to deliberate on this vital issue. To begin, we have to know "ourselves". WHO AM "I"? This question has to be answered correctly.I am a doctor, engineer, software professional, scientist, businessman and so on. All such answers are incorrect. It merely signifies… Continue

DoPeace Admin Declaration of Independence from Violence

On this day in 1776, our country's forefathers declared independence from the tyranny of the British monarchy and launched this shining example of democracy. However, somewhere along the way, the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" has morphed into a society based on violence and a winner-take-all mentality. The history of our democracy is filled with one tragic period of war followed by another, with all-too-brief interludes to reload. When school children are… Continue

CAN WE JUSTIFY OURSELVES

While a windstorm

Rages in heart of hearts,

And drowning memories

Ravage my aspirations,

Helpless I stand

In a desert, isolated.

The storm of agony

Uproot my dreams

And crash-lands my aspirations

In the mire of dejection

As if I am an accursed orphan

The delicate childhood

Is ruthlessly crushed

By inhumane attitude;

While day –to-day life

Merely remain a mirage.

In search of… Continue

Beth Lefevre Peace Begins At Home

One of the most important lessons I have ever learned...and I am still learning, is how to BE Peace. I sometimes feel like there is not too much I can do, with all the responsibilities here at home, with family and friends. I often feel like I want to do more out in the world and what can I do from here....

What I do DAILY and sometimes moment to moment, is BE peace. I started behaving peacefully with the ones I love the most, and those who sometimes bring out in me, the most… Continue

Jim Ramelis Comments from a Veteran on the 4th of July

Comments from a Veteran on the 4th of July

By Jim Ramelis

The 4th of July is here and it is time for patriotism, flag waving, parades and fireworks. The 4th is about picnics, fun, sunburns, baseball games and a celebration of America. It has always been one of my favorite holidays, probably because I have spent most of my life in Michigan, and the 4th is a holiday that usually is a warm sunny day. It is a day of bands and color and pageantry and community.

The 4th of July is also… Continue

Jim Ramelis Do The Right Thing President Obama

President Obama, Do The Right Thing in Honduras!

As those of you who follow the news may know, Honduran President Manuel Zalaya was ousted in a military coup. He was flown to Costa Rica and Roberto Michelettti was sworn in as interim President until January 27, 2010, the end of Zelaya’s term.

Obama called the action a “coup”, and said “We believe that the coup was not legal and that President Zelaya remains the President of Honduras”.

Later, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton… Continue

Lynn McMullen Believing in Peace

Welcome to DoPeace!

It is so urgent and natural for us to gather and talk of peace. Why? I find in my daily life that I get discouraged sometimes, and wonder if humanity will ever get its act together. Youth violence is out of control since homicide is the second leading cause of death for 10-24 year olds, make that number one for African American youth.

This fact startles me everytime I say it or write it or hear it.

Our pop culture and daily media exposure… Continue

Jim Ramelis Sacred Activism

I was reading the July edition of "Science of the Mind", a monthly put out by the Religious Science folks that I have subscribed to for years, and came across a great article by Donna Mosher,"Invitation to Awakening".It is an article about mystic Andrew Harvey and the spiritual shift that seems to be going on in the world now. Some call it "the great awakening".

Harvey uses the term "sacred activism" in a very interesting way that I find very appealing.

Mosher writes(begin… Continue

Jim Ramelis Not feeling Good about the Democrats

If the public option for health insurance is thrown out, I will have to admit I will feel a bit betrayed by the Democrats.

However, I shouldn't be surprised as I know that the real divide in Congress is not Democrat/Republican, it is Conservative v Progressive/Liberal. There a lot more conservatives than Progressives/Liberals. There are a lot of Conservative Democrats, bought and sold by the same corporations and people that have the Republicans bought and sold.

Reality is that just… Continue

DoPeace Admin Youth PROMISE act adds 56 new cosponsors in June (so far!)

If you're into civic activism, this is really amazing to watch!

The Change.org community is continuing to have a huge impact on the Youth PROMISE act! The concerted effort to lobby Representatives in the House since the Youth PROMISE act (H.R. 1064) was first introduced has lead to some very encouraging results. In the month of May, 31 new co-sponsors signed on, bringing the total number of cosponsors to 115 at the end of… Continue

Josh Swenson How Exciting!

I am so glad that we recieved this invitation! Because we love the DoP and we love Linda too. Also the more great resources to tip people too regarding supporting the DoP, the better.

And, maybe you Linda, and all you readers too, can help me. I'm looking for reputable economists to read regarding how we can have sustainable growth, a sustainable economy, or an economy not dependant on growth so as to be sustainable, that is also socially just. Please let me know what you… Continue
