Earth quakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes, uprisings of the oppressed, nuclear meltdowns, global economic and financial collapse. Of historic proportions, all around the world, and all virtually in the blink of an eye.
And what of peace? In this revolutionarily evolutionary, topsy-turvy world turning upside down, what can peace mean? What is the role of peacebuilding in such a world? How do we go about it and make it practical in our daily lives, no matter who we are or…

Recently on the Matador Network, an article was posted about four different ways to measure standard of living. We think that the Global Peace Index can be added to this list as an effective measure of standard of living – the levels of peace where you live contribute to your overall standard of living.
But what do you think about this? Have a look below.

Today, the members of our non profit group, the Order of Mercy, held a neighborhood street clean up as we have done several times in the past two years. People who live in the area joined in when they saw us, picking up trash and sweeping away broken glass. We also met some members of a spiritual group who had just moved in and were giving a concert this evening. It was wonderful to meet people who care about keeping our streets clean, safe and loved (we live on the edge of a notoriously…

“Five minutes, 20 slides. What would you say?”
That’s the invitation of “Ignite,” a global effort that inspires artists, technologists, thinkers, and personalities (in other words, common folks just like you and me) to take the stage and share ideas to “spark new conversations and collaborations across cultures and disciplines.” As the Ignite Global website explains, “In talks that are exactly five minutes long, Ignite presenters share their…

Vision of Humanity has ranked New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Austria as the top five most peaceful countries of 2009 in the Global Peace Index. According to an article on theage.com, New Zealand was awarded top place because of its low violence rate, decreased military spending, low homicide rate, and high level of respect for human rights. As for the Scandinavian nations, I have read multiple articles that claim Jante Law is largely, or, at least, partially, repsonsible for their…

The Art Miles Mural Project is a 12 year effort to bring more than 1/2 million people together from over 125 countries so far, through the arts. Our objective is to present the exhibition of the century with the visual voices of people who support a culture of peace with digitized images of 5,280 or 12 miles of murals on a…
