Save USIP - Update & Sign the Petition!

In February, the U.S. House voted to cut all funding for the United States Institute of Peace, which would essentially eliminate one of our government’s primary platforms for international peacebuilding.

So far already 8,000 people have signed the USIP petition.  Please visit here - http://bit.ly/SaveUSIP

Our good friend and partner, Chic Dambach, President of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, sends the below update.  Chic writes:  “One staff member in the Senate indicated they may not be able to hold the line for us – unless we can provide more public support. That is troubling, but it is also another warning that complacency could be catastrophic.” Your support has already made a big impact.  Let’s keep it up!

FW: USIP Update and Petition

Dear Alliance for Peacebuilding Members and Friends,

The effort to prevent Congress from de-funding USIP continues even as Congress is on recess. We know the Senate and White House are committed to support reasonable funding. However, we can expect the House to be firm in their determination to cut as deep as possible. One staff member in the Senate indicated they may not be able to hold the line for us – unless we can provide more public support. That is troubling, but it is also another warning that complacency could be catastrophic.  In the end, there will be a conference of designated Senators and House members, with White House participation, to hammer out a final bill. In these sessions, anything can happen.

Please sign and share the petition to Save USIP funding - help us reach 10,000 signatures.

The participants in that conference must be aware that fully funding USIP is essential for our national security and advancing the policies and values of the United States. Those attending must know that USIP has an engaged constituency.

Please sign and share the petition to Save USIP funding - help us reach 10,000 signatures!

Thank you very much.
