Several things excite me about the plan: 1. The emphasis on practical, on the ground, peace building projects & technologies over immediate structural change. 2. Making ending "the cycle of youth violence" a priority. 3. Growing sophistication in working with political leaders

About 10 years ago I attempted to create a peace center which I called The Peace Pavilion. It is based on the concept that it is only through understanding that we can achieve peace. Therefore, it was divided into many sections which addressed understanding of other cultures in various ways. The first section showed the accomplishments towards peace from cultures around the world. In the center of this round building, the core, is a peace garden with expressions of peace in every language shown around the room. I won't go into the many rooms surrounding this core right now because it is quite complex. But I do think that a peace center like this should definitely be a part of America's legacy to our world. If anyone is interested, please let me know, and I shall gladly share the entire concept with you in hopes that we can bring it to fruition.

It's a very thorough plan to target indeed ! It will take me a bit of time in giving more feedback as the 'thought wheels' are spinning after seeing/reading this strategic plan. :)
I must say, the one question I get from those within the community is, "How will the DOP help me/us locally" . Showing the positive impact that violence prevention programs have on individuals & community is certainly an important tool in any of us being able to observe what is possible for us to move through/toward as a nation. Only thing is, I don't feel small organizations get enough attention for the average person to make that connection; micro/macro. To me, THAT is a major key for people to see HOW a DOP can help them locally. Seems we need an independent TV station dedicated to this ! :) Hmmmm how cold we make THAT happen? Perhaps we need some contacts at DISCOVERY channel & others ????!!

Looks clear to me! Community peacebuilding is a compelling component in itself I'm sure to the congressional public. It's good to recognize how to build that 'bridge' from someone open to the idea - to becoming engaged in its implementation and realization - and continually asking questions to inform what's that 'click' for people.
