Empowering civic activism toward a culture of peace.

Post your comments below! Juan Pacheco is the East Coast Representative for Barrios Unidos/United Neighborhoods of Northern Virginia, a nonprofit organization that provides programs for youth to strengthen their community involvement and discourage their association with gangs. Pacheco was once a gang member and has now turned his life around and is on track to become a doctor. He offers hope by exposing youth to the power of resiliency through utilizing adults and older youth who have themselves experienced and overcome the challenges young people face.

"That's why we should get involved, because it effects us all, and we all effect each other, right?. And we have to believe that there's other alternatives to solving those issues of life that bring us down. . . There's got to be a better way of solving them. . . and that's why we should get involved, because I'm a part of you and you're a part of me. And what happens to me in my home will effect you."
Juan's wisdom, we are all part of the same web.
